The Reference Materials are divided into approximately 13 categories, each of which is sub-divided into separate sections. Each section is then subdivided into specific material classes which may be further sub-divided where necessary.

Catalogue Number Catalogue number comprises sample number and a prefix denoting origin details and producer.
Analyte Analyte chemical notation is used wherever possible: RE – Rare Earth; LOI – Loss on Ignition; VM – Volatile Matter;
GCV – Gross Calorific Value; REO Rare Earth Oxides; SG – Specific Gravity; RD – Relative Density; SP – Softening Point; Visc – Viscosity; CV – Coking Value.
Concentration Concentration Is in unit listed for each sample. Where this differs for individual analytes, a suffix is given. Concentration suffixes: a – ppm; b – BTU; c – MJ/Kg; d - °C; e – lb/Mbbls; f – ptb; g – cst; m – data as oxide; n – data as element; s – ng/kg; t - %; R – remainder; ( ) – uncertified data. - % is by weight unless specified to the contrary.
Set Only Y – samples only available as set.
Type CRM – Certified Reference Material; RM – Reference Material; SUS – Setting-Up-Sample/Drift Standard
Production Method CC – Chill Cast; C – Cast; W – Wrought; HIP – Hot Isostatically Pressed
Sample Size + - sample available in alternate sizes.
Samples are always supplied from current production batches. Every effort is made by producers to ensure consecutive batches are as close as possible within the production method used. Actual concentrations are listed on the certificate of analysis supplied with each sample.
